Cobian Reflector • Performance Cobian Reflector

Good afternoon,

I’m currently setting up a backup for a file storage system with approximately 16TB of data. Our goal is to use Cobian Reflector primarily for incremental backups, but we need to perform an initial full backup before transitioning to daily incremental backups.

Due to the size of the full backup, we won’t be storing it permanently. Instead, we plan to perform a full backup via a script on a quarterly basis.

We’ve started copying the first 2TB of data. The files are segmented across multiple shares, allowing us to back up in parts. So far, the process has been running for 30 hours.

Could you recommend any best practices to improve the performance of this backup?

Here are the details of our setup:

Server: Windows Server 2022

Processor: Xeon 4514Y

RAM: 32GB

Tasks: 5 tasks ranging from 500GB to 5TB, totaling 16TB

Backup Settings: Default Cobian Reflector settings for incremental backup, with VSS enabled, using file attributes, no compression, and skipping empty directories.

Destination: 6TB external USB 3.0 HDD

I understand this isn’t the ideal backup scenario, but it’s a cost-effective solution that was approved by the company, and we’re currently testing it for validation.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help!
